Why should we talk about extremism?

We take with us more knowledge about extremism and migration. After talking to people from this many different countries and cultures, we also feel like we have more respect for other people. We understand the difference of cultures and societies more than before.

Thea and Tiril

It’s extremely important to be aware of what happens around the world. If we want to stop extremism, we must talk about it and work together against it.

Lea and Cindy

We are going to take with us what we have learned from this week. Extremism is a harsh topic which needs to be talked about. We need to raise tolerance and respect. For an end to extremism, we must begin to learn from history.

Sarah Celine and Kristiane

What have we learnt?

We learned a lot of about immigration in Norway, both people who travel to and from Norway to try and get a better life. We learned about the importance of trying to understand each other and to not judge people before you get to know their story. And how a lack of this understanding can lead to extremism.

Sandra, Andreas and Sebastian

We have learnt a lot this week. The most important thing we take with us is that we don´t have to be best friends with everybody, but we must meet each other with friendliness and respect. Cultures, Utøya, Voss migration, history at Bryggen and people´s stories are things that we learnt more about during this week.

Thea and Tiril

We learned about each other’s cultures and how it is being teenager in the other countries, it was surprising how different it was in all the countries We learned that more migration could cause less extremism.

Maren and Frida

We have learned about the Hanseatic, people emigrating to the USA from Voss and Norway and Herdla in the 2nd world war. We have learned how to be more open with new people and to accept people who have different cultures and ours.

Lea and Cindy

We have learned a lot. Migration is a harsh topic, we might think that people move to Norway because of money and NAV, but they maybe were forced out of their country because of poverty, war etc. So, we should never judge people before we know their stories. Extremism can happen because of loneliness, hate and mental health. It is totally okay to disagree and have your own opinions, but when it turns into something physical, then it is not okay anymore. I feel like the people find us Norwegian “stereotypically” rude and not so polite, and that it is hard to get to know us. It is kind of true, but also not. Me and Kristiane have opened up more after this, communicated with strangers better. And I already notice when I walked in the hall this morning that I smiled and said “hi” to everyone. Me and Kristiane´s norms have been better now, and I feel that we have changed in a way.

Sarah Celine and Kristiane

We have learned that we always need to be respectful to other people and be open minded when we meet new people. We don't have to be best friends with everyone but we can always be nice and respectful. We learned about other cultures and what they do for a living, for example their school system, traditions, food and family. We learned about extremism, migration and history about Norway.

Wilma, Amalie and Håvard

What do we take with us?

We take with us that it’s important to talk about these things, and that we have to work against it. We also take with us new friendships and facts about how people from other cultures live and how they enjoyed Norway.
